More Office Fun

[on a conference call with Lisa and her supervisor Tom (meaning, they're on speakerphone in Tom's office) regarding a meeting my boss, Stan, has been asking me to arrange with some important mucks that both Lisa and Tom support. They've called to bitch me out, essentially, and I just got tired of apologizing to them:]

me: Let me see if I can explain myself. Lisa, you told me that Stan called you requesting a third party to attend this meeting as well. This morning Stan said he never called you, so I just want to make sure we're on the same page, because this third party's availability was what we were waiting for in this process, and I wanted to get the ball rolling on this again. Tom, I'm sorry I had to get you involved in this as well, but you see Stan asked me to call you, and of course since he's my boss, I don't ask "how high" when he tells me to jump, I just jump as high as I can. I appreciate you two working on this with me, and I hope you aren't dismayed at me constantly calling and e-mailing you regarding this. It doesn't mean I think you two aren't doing your jobs. The reason I constantly call and e-mail - even though I know it's fruitless - is because if I didn't, it would appear as if I wasn't doing my job. It's how the game is played, you see, please don't take it personally. So calling me up like this next Friday because of an e-mail I'm going to send to you on Thursday asking for an update won't help any. Oh, and by the way Lisa, you actually didn't get back to me on Friday, though you just said you did, which is why Stan asked me to call Tom this morning in the first place, creating this whole mess. Thanks for calling, I'll look forward to speaking with you soon.
